Uber Partners to Help Cities

Uber is helping change the way the world moves – expanding into new markets every month with their technology platform connecting riders with drivers through their apps. When users request a ride, riders are matched with the nearest available driver and the GPS-enabled map provides the driver’s location and trip details in real-time.

By sharing data with municipal partners we can help cities become more livable, resilient, and innovative.

Uber’s technology captures how people are moving around their cities, beyond just traffic volume counts and the speeds of traffic flows. By providing anonymized trip-level data by Zip Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA), cities and states can use this information to help manage traffic, and facilitate efficient transit operations.

In early 2015, Boston joined Uber in a partnership to help the City use trip-level information to assist with traffic planning and congestion reduction throughout the city. In addition, this partnership can help discern the impact of events and incidents on city transportation, and influence decisions on where to create or reduce on-street parking. According to Uber, “by sharing data with municipal partners we can help cities become more livable, resilient, and innovative.”
